Over 850 People On Housing List In Tipp/Cashel/Cahir District

There are presently 3,561 people on the housing list in County Tipperary.  These are reported on a district basis. The Council’s monthly housing report also records  the number of vacant social houses available in each district –

Thurles MD has the highest figure with 897 approved applicants – at present there are 44 vacant houses in the district.

The Tipp Cahir Cashel District has 855 approved applicants and a total of 33 currently vacant houses.

Nenagh has 741 on the housing list with 29 vacant properties, Clonmel has 699 approved social housing applications with 10 vacant properties while Carrick on Suir has 369 people approved for social housing and currently has 18 vacant premises.   

Tipperary County Council is also supporting 1,731 people with a Housing Assistance Payment to support their tenancy in private rented accommodation.

357 people have presented as homeless at some stage this year in County Tipperary – these are recorded as 217 single persons, 5 couples, 34 couples with children and 96 persons involving single adults with children.

The focus of homeless services in 2022 continues to be the prevention of clients entering emergency accommodation and thus the homeless cycle.

The September Report also lists 55 locations where the council or approved housing bodies are constructing new social housing in Tipperary – in total these developments will deliver 851 units between now and 2026. 

The report also reveals that to the end of August a total of  73 “voids” have been completed in 2022 – these are  social houses that are not available for use  as repairs/renovations were required.
