Three Priority Actions Identify To Improve National Road In Thurles

Thurles Municipal District has identified 3 priority actions for Transport Infrastructure Ireland to improve National roads in the county.

Each year all 5 MDs in the county meet with TII to seek funding and approval for priority road projects.

The three suggestions are, a repeated call for safety measures at Turtulla Cross on the south side of Thurles, the installation of a new slip road onto the M8 at Two-Mile Borris to allow access to the southbound lane and the introduction of a Bypass in Thurles.

The local councillors have prioritised the Thurles Bypass Proposal. Progress on the Bypass is unlikely to emerge from the annual TII process as the project is not currently included in the National Development Plan which sets out government investment plans up to 2030.

The plan was reviewed earlier this year and at the time the Thurles ByPass was not included.

Tipperary county council approved a route for the ByPass over 10 years ago with the road to traverse the Eastern side of the town.
