A Tipperary councillor has lambasted the performance of Irish Water labeling it an expensive disaster. Cllr Seamus Morris doubts if the new water services company, announced by the government last week, to be known as Uisce Eireann will be any better.
He highlighted that 90% of disruptions to water supplies in Tipperary in 2020 had been due to unplanned outages mostly due to burst water mains. Cllr Morris said no councillor is happy with the service provided and said the performance of Irish water is a real threat to the ability of the county to grow economically.
Mr Morris has objected to a major infrastructure plan to spend 2 billion euro for a pipeline from the Shannon to Dublin giving the condition of water pipes in Dublin which are said to leak at a rate of between 38% and 43% of all processed water distributed by the system.
Mr Morris also said an offer of €3000 to local authority staff to encourage them to change over to becoming staff of Uisce Eireann was insulting.
