Government Likely To Survive No Confidence Motion

The Government looks likely to survive a motion of no –confidence being put forward by Sinn Fein in the Dáil tomorrow.

Two TDs presently outside the FF and FG party whip have committed to voting against the motion.

These are Fine Gael’s Joe McHugh and Independent TD Marc MacSharry formerly of FF.

Mr MacSharry says while he remains unhappy with the leadership of Micheal Martin an election would only serve to take attention away from the issues facing families.

Two Green party TDs are also unlikely to support the motion despite being outside their parliamentary party due to the government approach to the National Maternity Hospital earlier this year.

The Rural Independents led by Tipperary TD Mattie McGrath have committed to supporting the motion.

Independent Wexford TD Verona Murphy has also said that she will vote no confidence in the Coalition.

The Dáil is due to rise this week for the Summer Recess and has seen a large amount of legislation processed without lengthy debate.
