A motorist in Thurles has been issued with a fine of €150 for parking in a disabled parking bay on Liberty Square.

Tipperary Roads Policing came across the vehicle while patrolling and monitoring disabled bays in Thurles.

The vehicle did not have a permit and the driver had parked in the disabled bay outside Scoil Angela while making a quick shopping trip.

An Garda Siochana monitors the use of disabled parking bays as part of Operation Enable and has repeated a call for drivers to respect disabled bays.

The objective of Operation Enable is to remind motorists of the need to respect the Disabled Parking Bays and to remind Disabled Parking Permit holders of the need to respect the conditions attached to the permits.

The Garda action has been widely praised on social media.
