411

The Government aims to combat violence against women through an over 400 million euro funded initiative.

A new five year strategy will focus on education from an early age on issues such as consent, healthy sexual relationships, and domestic violence.

The strategy also proposes changes to sentencing with the maximum sentence for assault to be doubled as part of measures contained in a zero-tolerance strategy to tackle domestic, sexual, and gender-based violence.

The funding will also be used to provide additional refugee spaces for victims of domestic violence.

At present there are 141 spaces nationwide this will be increased to 280 over the next five years and will ensure that spaces are available in every county.
