Community Water Development Fund grants have been issued by the Local Authority Waters Programme totalling some €510,000 in grants. There were 182 successful applications for funding in 2022 for projects to raise awareness and take remedial actions to protect all water bodies. This year, an additional €10,000 was awarded as part of the Blue Dot Programme. The Blue Dot Award for 2022 was shared between two groups; IRD Duhallow and CELT (Centre for Environmental Living & Training) in County Galway. Blue Dots are catchments which are mostly unpolluted and are Ireland’s best quality waters.
There were 8 Tipperary projects with successful applications – these secured sums ranging from €531 to €11,200 euros.
Clonmel Junction Arts Festival € 2,000, Cabragh Wetlands development Trust Cabragh Wetlands Habitat Management Plan € 3,000, Golden Tidy Towns/ Golden Community Enhancement Group Commemoration and presentation of a Salmon Sculpture on the banks of the River Suir in Golden € 531, Mullinahone Tidy Towns River Clean Up € 500.00, Ballynonty Community Field Outdoor Nature Based Classroom € 750.00, Suircan Environmental Ltd River invasive mapping & action research € 5,000, Ballinderry Development Association Lower Ballyfinboy River Enhancement Project (Phase III) € 11,200.00 and Kilsheelan Tidy Towns Biodiversity Tree Planting € 1,000.
