An Independent Tipperary TD says the Labour Court intervention to resolve the dispute between the Department of Health and the Medical Scientists is a positive move.

Michael Lowry who supports the union members says their work stoppage was commenced out of sheer frustration with delays in the dispute which began 20 years ago.

Deputy Lowry expressed the view that these highly educated professionals are not being treated fairly as they seek a reformed career structure and a pay increase.

Hospitals and GPs are now rescheduling cancelled procedures and tests.

The Medical Scientists Laboratory Association has suspended industrial action planned for today and all 2100 members are back at work as the talks are set to begin later today.
