Garda from the Cahir Station on patrol last evening staged a successful intervention on the Motorway after a vehicle entered the M8 heading the wrong way.
The SUV type vehicle had just entered the motorway when the Garda came across the situation and were able to stop the vehicle and provide assistance to remove it.
The motorist stated they were confused while using Satnav. Garda advise that while Satnavs are a useful guidance tool motorists are urged to watch the road and be situationally aware of junctions and road layouts on approach.
The driver will now be prosecuted with the exact charges to be determined. Garda are relieved that the incident was stopped before anyone could have been seriously hurt.
