Tipperary TD Jackie Cahill is raising concerns about the calibre of management at UHL in the Dáil.

Deputy Cahill asked the Taoiseach to order a full review into the managerial practices of at the Hospital.

Mr Cahill said he has been approached by frontline staff in the Hospital.

The Deputy cited the record trolley numbers at the hospital and questioned why no improvement in the overcrowding situation was evident despite new beds being opened in UHL.

Mr Cahill says that staff at the hospital are now working in “intolerable conditions”  and  are “extremely worried about the treatment that patients are receiving, and the standards that are pertaining in the hospital due to the conditions in place there.”

Deputy Cahill was supported by Limerick TD Maurice Quinlivan.

The Taoiseach was not supportive of reviews and instead favoured action to increase bed capacity  in the short to medium term.

Mr Martin committed to raising the points Deptuty Cahill made about governance at the hospital with the HSE.
