Over 335,000 customers of SSE Airtricity are to face price increases from May 1st. Today the company announced increases to  residential electricity prices of 24% and gas prices by 32.3%.  Dual fuel household bills will increase by 27.5% on average.  The company said the price increase was caused by record prices in wholesale energy markets. The company increased its prices 3 times in 2021. Energy experts are encouraging customers to switch supplier where they may benefit in the short term from an introductory discount. SSE Airtricity also announced measures to help customers – an existing customer support fund  will be boosted by an additional €1 million, to provide direct support to customers in difficulty. The company will also donate €1 million to a charity partner which will be used to support people who are struggling with the cost of living as the global energy crisis continues. Customers of Electric Ireland were informed earlier this week that their bills will also increase from  May 1st  – residential electricity set to increase by 23.4% and gas customers hit with a 24.8% increase.
