A Tipperary student has been voted Agri Aware Farm Safe Schools Regional Champion for Munster.

Grange National School is celebrating today after David Long emerged victorious with his project involving a tractor designed in Minecraft.

David is a 4th class pupil in Grange school located near Clonmel. Champions are selected from each region and awarded a certificate of achievement and a family pass to Dublin Zoo,  sponsored by the Department of Agriculture, Food and Marine.

David has helped his classmates and teacher throughout the programme by sharing his knowledge and recently showed them the dangers associated with the PTO and slurry fumes using the interactive whiteboard.

Farm Safe Schools is a joint collaboration between Agri Aware, AgriKids, the IFA and is supported by the Department of Agriculture, Food and Marine which aims to kickstart farm safety conversations in classrooms nationwide.

According to the Health and Safety Authority 21 children have died on Irish farms over the last decade as a result of farm accidents.
