New Bye Laws For Council Run Cemeteries

A new set of bye laws for cemeteries are to be implemented in County Tipperary.

These regulations include restrictions on the size of monuments, the requirement for sculptures to hold a license to construct on the site, and possible sanctions for those who breach these laws.

Tipperary County Councillors have voted for the new rules however some feel that the bye laws are inadequate and are requesting a complete redraft.

The Council executive has agreed to review the byelaws after 6 months to assess their impact.

Cllr Roger Kennedy says unless the council actively use their enforcement powers the byelaws are not going to address concerns about the size of some memorials erected in the graveyards managed by the Council.
