Pig Farmers will need more support from the Government according to Chair of Limerick IFA pig committee.
Tom Hogan says the package of €20,000 for each pig farmer sending more than 200 pigs to slaughter annually is welcome but that more is needed.
The current conditions have created a perfect storm of rising input costs, for feed, fuel, veterinary and energy combined with low prices due to falling demand exacerbated by Covid restrictions and Brexit.
Mr Hogan repeated a call for a Food Regulator to be appointed to examine the value chain from producer to processor to retailer to consumer to ensure a fair margin for each participant.
