Ireland is one of the countries in the top 20 for the most expensive for fuel, sitting in 17th place.

The country ranks just outside the top 10 in Europe (12th) for fuel prices hitting the pocket more than our European friends.

AA Ireland have compiled the data and it also shows that fuel prices remain close to the highest levels ever recorded.

Currently the average national price of petrol is 170.3 cents per litre, while diesel stands at 160.5 cents per litre.

AA Ireland’s Anna Cullen says petrol prices have jumped by 31% compared to this time last year while diesel has been a bigger increase at 33%.

The company says the cause for the hikes include tax which makes up two thirds of the price (60%) and a supply/demand issue following the easing of restrictions and productive increasing globe once again.
