An Independent TD believes the resignation of the entire Board of the Disabled Drivers Medical Board of Appeal is concerning.

The Board resigned in October  due to their frustrations that a large number of drivers applying for tax reliefs were being turned down, resulting in them resorting to the Appeals process.

The Department of Finance lost a high court case about the scheme criteria in June 2020 and no reforms have been enacted since then prompting the Appeals Board to resign in protest.

Michael Lowry says he has been contacted by many people in Tipperary who have been denied the financial support they need to have independent  transport, despite their entitlement to VRT and VAT relief’

Deputy Lowry says that when the Dail resumes on Jan 19th after the Christmas Break he will raise the matter with the Minister for Finance Paschal Donohoe
