Patrick Quirke has lost his appeal against his conviction over the murder of part-time DJ Bobby Ryan, the Court of Appeal has ruled.

The 51-year-old farmer from Breanshamore, just outside Tipperary Town, was convicted in 2019 of the murder of local DJ Bobby ‘Mr Moonlight’ Ryan (52) at Fawnagowan, Co. Tipperary.

The Central Criminal Court found that Quirke murdered Mr Ryan and dumped his body in a disused tank on the farm of Ms Mary Lowry, a woman who Quirke had previously been in a relationship with in an attempt to rekindle his relationship with Ms Lowry.

The Court heard evidence that Mr Ryan was last seen alive leaving Ms Lowry’s property on the morning of June 3rd, 2011.

Quirke last year appealed his conviction on more than 50 grounds. His lawyers argued that he was “stigmatised and prejudiced” by irrelevant evidence that was inappropriately introduced to the jury.
