Tipperary Sinn Féin TD Martin Browne has said that the decision to redeploy the two Gardai from Ballyporeen and Clogheen to Cahir and Cashel, is further evidence of under investment in An Garda Siochana.

Speaking after news of the decision emerged, Deputy Browne said:  “Unfortunately, we are seeing yet another example of how services are being stripped away from Co Tipperary and rural Ireland in general”.

Deputy Browne said  Superintendent Denis Whelan was left with little choice but to deal with the shortfall in Garda numbers by redeploying Gardaí to Cahir and Cashel.

Deputy Browne said it must not be a long-term arrangement, because a slippery slope of reduced Garda numbers must not be allowed to lead to any downgrading of local Garda stations in the future.

The Cashel based TD said he had written to the Minister for Justice Heather Humphreys  requesting a full account of why our local Gardaí have been left in this situation, and for the Minister to tell the people of Ballyporeen, Clogheen and Ardfinnan of her plans to address this shortfall in staffing.
