558

Cllr Marie Murphy,  has said that the proposal for the Cahir Public Realm to be presented to the public later this year will hopefully be very different to the three options currently open for public consultation. Cllr Murphy who is the currently Cathaoirleach of Tipperary County Council noted that the Cahir public realm project had secured €600, 000 in funding to develop a proposal – she said this needed to be finalised this year with planning approval completed to enable the Tipp Cahir Cashel MD apply for development funding.

The Councillor urged the designers to listen to the traders and said their views must be taken into account. Ms Murphy also encouraged all members of the community to make submissions on the concepts. The 3 concepts or designs for the public realm in Cahir are available to view on the council website and in Cahir Library – Friday August 27th  at 5pm is the closing date for feedback on these three different concepts. Feedback forms are available in the library.

The works may involve a new car park, changes to the Castle Car park entrances, alterations to the layout of the Square, a new pedestrianised area in the Square, consideration of alternative bus stop locations, an active travel hub in the Town Centre, smart technology for lighting and street furniture, Biodiversity support and provision of an open plan community friendly space.

The final proposal developed following this consultation will be submitted for planning permission via the Part 8 planning process later this year.
