The Minister for Sport, Jack Chambers met with officials from the County Board and Semple Stadium management at the invitation of local TD Jackie Cahill this morning. Cahill believes that the ambitious plans to develop Semple Stadium’s facilities are vital to ensure it remains as the country’s second stadium, just after Croke Park.

Speaking after the meeting today in Semple Stadium, Cahill said: “I was delighted to welcome the Minister for Sport to my hometown of Thurles this morning for a meeting with the Secretary of the County Board, Tim Floyd, and the Operations Manager of the stadium, David Morgan.

“The management have very ambitious plans for the Kinane Stand and for the training facilities. The Kinane Stand was built in 1967 and is in need of refurbishment and expansion to bring it to modern stadium standards.”

“The team in Semple Stadium also have plans to develop the dressing rooms at Dr Morris Park and we took the opportunity to brief Minister Chambers on this also.”

“The GAA firmly has its roots in Thurles and it is vital we secure further investment in Semple Stadium to secure its future as our country’s second stadium. I will continue to work with my Fianna Fáil colleague Minister Jack Chambers with the view of making this happen,” Cahill concluded.
