Virtual Celebration For Tipperary Senior Footballers & Bloody Sunday 1920 To Be Held This Evening

Tipperary County Council is extending an invitation to the public to view a virtual civic reception to celebrate and honour the 2020 Tipperary Senior Footballers and to commemorate Bloody Sunday 1920. The event will air live on Thursday 27 May at 8pm via  https://www.facebook.com/tipperarycc  and a recording of the event will be available on the council website from Friday 28th  May at  www.tipperarycoco.ie

The guests involved in reviewing the events include Joe Kennedy,  Conor O’Dwyer and Barry O’Brien from Tipperary GAA Administration, David Power and Conor Sweeney, Manager and Captain respectively will speak on behalf of the Tipperary Senior Footballers and the council will be featured via the contributions of  Joe MacGrath Chief Executive and Cathaoirleach Cllr Michael Smith.

Presentations of Commemorative Scrolls and Photo Collages will be presented to the participants as a memento of the occasion. Covid restrictions has caused a delay in Council’s intention to celebrate the players’ success in 2020 and commemorating the events of Bloody Sunday 1920 including marking Tipperary‘s involvement on the day. The Tipperary senior football team were engaged in a match with Dublin on that fateful day in 1920 when 14 people died at Croke Park including Tipperary player Michael Hogan as a result of a military attack by Crown Forces.

There will be footage involving family representatives related to 1920, the Tipperary GAA Bloody Sunday Commemorative Committee and Marie McMahon, Curator of Tipperary Museum of Hidden History  will also feature at Thursday’s event.
