Tipperary county council have published details of a significantly expanded Commercial Incentive scheme which sees business setting up in qualifying formerly vacant premises being eligible for a grant related to the rates paid .The Commercial Vacancy Incentive Scheme 2021 was developed to help restore vibrancy and vitality to town and villages and to directly address the issue of vacant retail units.
The Scheme creates three different categories that can avail of the scheme – namely a Qualifying Occupier • Qualifying Business/Use • Qualifying Premises
The scheme has identified three different rates of grant award based on the location of the applicant – these are Prime Retail Area Zone, Town Centre Zone and County Tipperary Villages Zone and thirdly a County-wide Zone.
Each of the three zones has a cap of 5000 per annum on the grant amount – for the Prime Retail zones the rate of grant will be 90% in the first year, 40 % in the second year and 20% in the third year. The two other zones will also have a 3 year scheme but the first year will be awarded at 50 and 40 of the rates bill respectively with a sliding scale of grant for years 2 and 3 of the scheme.
