Anthony Hopkins Wins Best Actor Oscar

Welsh actor Anthony Hopkins has won the Best Actor Oscar at last night’s Academy Awards ceremony, due to be broadcast in Irish screen tonight. The 83 year-old won for his role as a man struggling with memory loss in “The Father”, directed by Florian Zeller. Hopkins is widely regarded as one of the greatest actors of all time. This is his second Oscar win, having won the Best Actor Award for his iconic role as Hannibal Lecter in “The Silence Of The Lambs” in 1992.

Kilkenny film-makers, Cartoon Saloon, were also up for an Oscar, this being their 5th nomination in the Best Featured Animation Film category, for their movie “Wolf Walkers”, set in Kilkenny. They lost at last nights’ ceremony to Pixar’s “Soul”.

The 93rd Academy Awards will be broadcast on RTE tonight at 9.35 pm.
