Cashel based TD Martin Browne and Cllr Declan Burgess have both welcomed the outcome of the National Transport Authority Review of the X8 Cork to Dublin Bus Service, currently provided by Bus Eireann.

At present, the route is subject to monthly reviews. Both public representatives have highlighted that while a 3 month emergency funding allocation to retain the service was welcome, it is not acceptable to now have a monthly review.

Deputy Brown quoted the CEO of the NTA, Anne Graham as saying that “the NTA has determined that in order to meet the social needs of the communities affected, there is a public service obligation to continue to provide services along the Cork to Dublin corridor via Fermoy, Mitchelstown, Cahir and Cashel”.

It is also understood that the NTA are now considering how best to meet that public service obligation on a continued and effective basis. Both Public representatives have promised to continue their efforts with Minster for Transport, Eamon Ryan and to keep the public informed of efforts to secure the service.
