Thousands of family carers across the country are due to receive their annual support grant (formerly the respite care grant) today.
Worth €1,700, the grant will be included automatically with carers’ weekly payment.
Richie Molloy, Family Carers Ireland Tipperary Manager pointed out how the grant can be spent for whatever purpose the family carer wishes.
Mr Molloy also stressed that anyone who is caring for a loved one can claim the grant, which is non-means-tested up to the end of the year. They do not have to be in receipt of the carers allowance to qualify for the once-off annual payment.
Application forms are available from the office of Family Carers Ireland in Clonmel (052 7447102) or at Citizens Information offices around the county.
He has also advised anyone collecting the payment today to consider bringing someone with them.
