Carers, their families or those being cared for have been asked to present county Tipperary’s election candidates with a so-called Canvass Card, as they call to the county’s doors.

Family Carers Ireland, which represents those looking after vulnerable family members are campaigning for a reform of means testing for the carer’s allowance, the introduction of legislation that would provide a statutory basis for homecare and an increased provision of respite, among a range of other demands.

The Canvass Card lists the demands being made by Family Carers’ Ireland.

They are available from Family Carer’s Ireland’s Clonmel office which can be contacted on 052 6170455.

They can also be obtained at the Irish Wheelchair Association’s centre, Brodeen, Cashel Road, Tipperary town, this Friday when families of people with disabilities will be given the opportunity to ask all local election candidates to commit to properly fund the country’s disability services in the next term of government.

That event takes place at 11am this Friday, January 31st.
