The Cashel and Emly Diocese has confirmed that it will not be taking on a 20-year lease of the old Bridewell jail complex in Tipperary town.

The confirmation comes after the March4Tipp Group appealed to the diocese not to sign the lease before discussions were undertaken about its place as a key heritage site in the town and its potential as a tourist attraction.

March4Tipp has welcomed the decision taken by the diocese and say they look forward to the premises being restored for heritage and tourism purposes through the work of the new Task Force.
