Man dies in collision on N24 near Clonmel – road closed

A man has died on a county Tipperary road overnight.

The fatal crash occurred on the N24 at Killaloan on the outskirts of Clonmel shortly after 3 o’clock this morning.

The driver of the car, a man in his 30s was removed to South Tipperary General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Two passengers in the car, a man and a woman, both in their 20s, were taken to hospital for treatment to injuries not thought to be life-threatening.

The road is currently closed near the Kilheffernan Roundabout between Clonmel and Kilsheelan, and traffic is being diverted through Fethard.

Speaking at Clonmel Garda Station Superintendent William Leahy said that from initial enquiries it’s understood that the car, a 05 WH registered silver Volkswagen Polo, left the road and struck a wall while travelling from Clonmel in the direction of Carrick-on-Suir.

Gardai are appealing for witnesses, and in particular anyone who was travelling on this stretch of road between 2.45am and 3.15am to contact them at Clonmel Garda Station. Gardai are also asking any road users with camera footage to make it available to them.
