Tipp Town Library a step closer to 7-day opening

The Tipperary Town Library is to receive funding that will bring it closer to being open on a 7-day per week basis, after the Minister for Community Development, Michael Ring, approved €57,341 in funding for the library under the My Open Library scheme.

The purpose of this funding is to allow people to access public libraries on a self-service basis from 8am to 10pm, 365 days-a-year.

To enable the Tipperary Town Library to achieve this status, it will cost €76,454. With the money that Minister Ring has provided, it means that Tipperary County Council will have to supply the balance of €19,113.

This will come as some good news locally, given the ongoing campaign to have the library’s opening hours extended.

Welcoming today’s announcement, Cllr Michael Fitzgerald commended campaigners for their efforts in bringing the matter to the attention of the library authorities and indeed, the minister’s office.
