A number of councillors are to meet with the Chief Executive of the county council, Joe McGrath, as well as with the Head of Finance, Liam McCarthy, to see if there is any way in which businesses affected by the N24 road works in Tipp town can have that impact reflected in their commercial rates bill.
The meeting follows a notice of motion submitted by Cllr Annemarie Ryan this week in which she asked that a discount similar to the one offered to businesses under the Early Payment Scheme, be offered to those affected by the ongoing Davitt St works.
While the matter will be discussed at senior level, yesterday’s meeting of the Municipal District was told that discretion cannot be used to reduce rates for some and not for others.
Meanwhile, local traders are due an update on how the N24 road works are progressing and when they are expected to conclude.
According to Cllr Michael Fitzgerald, Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) will give an update on October 2nd, with the end date likely towards the middle of the month.
