ABP has announced that 100 staff are to be temporarily laid off at its plant in Cahir today.

The company says that the latest decision has been made as a direct result of the continued presence of seven protestors outside the gates of the plant.

In a statement ABP claimed that the protestors’ actions ‘are putting all jobs at ABP Cahir at risk’.

The company has further claimed that the blockade has cost local suppliers in the region of €6 million while an estimated €5 million a week is being lost to the local economy in wages, cattle payments and fees to third party contractors.

Today’s announcement brings the number of workers temporarily laid off at the Cahir plant to-date to 455.

The total number of people temporarily laid off by the company nationwide now stands at 1,463.
