Independent Farmers wait for invite to talks

The Independent Farmers group was this afternoon waiting to see if it will be included in the talks on the beef crisis that are due to take place tomorrow.

The Agriculture Minister is to convene talks at the Department of Agriculture offices, and it is understood that the main farming organisations and meat processors will be represented.

The Independent Farmers group has said it is waiting to see if the minister invites its representatives to join the talks.

All of this is taking place as Bord Bia confirms that it recently approved a Dawn Meats-run factory in Northern Ireland to process cattle raised in the Republic, because of the impact the dispute has had here.

The factory in question has been approved by Bord Bia and therefore the Irish beef that is processed there can secure the organisation’s mark of approval.
