All 40 beds at the new modular unit at South Tipperary General Hospital are due to be open by the end of the first quarter of next year.
According to Michael Lowry TD today, the building of the unit is complete; the equipment required is on-site and the handover of the new building from the contractor to the HSE is due to take place on November 1st.
The recruitment process is still underway, and he says has been relatively successful to-date.
The next step in the process is the commissioning of medical equipment and devices.
Deputy Lowry told Tipp Mid West this morning that 20 beds at the unit will be ‘ready and available’ in December, while the remaining 20 beds will be available for patients in February or March.
