Motorists are being advised to avoid Tipperary town where possible as a burst gas main in the Churchwell area of Tipperary town has resulted in the area being closed to traffic.

The area concerned is around the junction of Church St and Martin Breen Court.

The site is being attended by Gas Networks Ireland who are endeavouring to address the problem.

Gardai have said that as a result of the burst main and the works that have been underway, all traffic coming from Limerick is being directed down O’Brien St.

This is likely to cause severe traffic problems as traffic coming from the Main St is already being directed up O’Brien St.

Motorists are therefore being asked to avoid Tipperary town where possible.
