Tipp town’s primary schools get additional supports

The campaign by Tipp town’s five primary schools to secure DEIS status has moved a step closer today after the Department of Education made a number of extra supports available to them.

The schools will be included in an initiative to support literacy development and intervention programmes for pupils with specific learning difficulties.

A temporary additional teacher, whose role will be to encourage a partnership between the schools and parents to improve educational outcomes for students, will be made available between all schools in the upcoming school year.

They have also been advised to apply for a fund connected to DEIS to develop parental involvement in their children’s education through a three-year initiative worth a maximum of €55,000.

Four of the schools have also been advised to seek access to support through the English as an Additional Language programme (EAL).
