Gardai appeal for witnesses to fatal crash

One fatality and a five-year-old boy amongst the injured.

Gardai in Tipperary town are continuing to appeal for witnesses to a fatal road traffic collision near the town yesterday, to come forward.

The crash occurred at around 12.30 yesterday afternoon and involved two cars colliding head-on, on the R661 at Reddan’s Walk.

The driver of one of the cars, a 59-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene a short time after the crash, while a five-year-old boy who was travelling in the same car was taken by ambulance to University Hospital Limerick.

The driver of the second car, a man aged 54, was also taken by ambulance to UHL. 

Their injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

The cars being driven were an Audi A4 and a Skoda.

Gardai in Tipperary town are appealing to anyone who may have been travelling the road in question between 12.15pm and 12.30pm yesterday to contact them on 062 80670. 

Inspector James White this morning pointed out that the latest fatality brings to 6, the number of people to have lost their lives on Co Tipperary’s roads so far this year – higher than the number recorded this time last year.
