Two Tipperary town gardai have been commended for their actions during a fire in the centre of the town last week.

The incident occurred at a premises on Main St last Thursday afternoon.

As the emergency services were on their way to deal with the fire, two Tipperary town gardai entered the smoke-filled premises, which contained a number of apartments, to ensure nobody was left inside.

After ensuring the building was unoccupied, they subsequently emerged unharmed and were treated for smoke inhalation. They soon returned back to their duties.

Speaking about the incident to Tipperary Mid West Radio, Inspector James Whyte commended the two gardai, saying it displayed their dedication to the welfare of the public.
