Minister Damien English is today due to meet with the person he has nominated to be the independent chairperson of the Taskforce for Tipperary town.
Identified as Alison Harvey, she is a chartered planner with qualifications and experience in project management. She has a background in economics and regeneration, and a particular interest in urban renewal. She also has a background in working with the Heritage Council.
Today’s meeting between Ms Harvey and the minister is understood to be one of the final formal briefings before she takes up the role.
Ms Harvey is then expected to arrange to meet with those interested in becoming involved in the Vision and Plan of Action for Tipperary town.
The Jobs4Tipp and March4Tipp groups are among those she intends to hold talks with.
Deputy Michael Lowry has said he is optimistic that the March4Tipp group, to whom he has spoken on the matter and who have been critical of the level of council involvement in the process so far, will now consider coming on board, given that an ‘outside, professional chairperson’ has been nominated to lead the process.
