Minister Regina Doherty has dismissed suggestions that issues facing small towns like Tipperary are ignored in favour of regional statistics.

The Minister for Employment Affairs and Social Protection was speaking in Tipperary town today at a well-attended jobs and training event.

She denied that the unemployment rates in Tipperary town were ignored in favour of regional figures, following controversy over a discussion between her and local TD Mattie McGrath in the Dail last year.

Speaking to Tipp Mid West this afternoon, Minster Doherty said that the recent public marches as well as appeals made by local TDs have been heard by government, and she now wants the Vision and Plan of Action for Tipperary town to work.
