The public is being advised of a scam that has been noticed locally in which households are being phoned by someone claiming to be from their broadband provider.

Tipperary town gardai have said that during the call, the householder is told that there is an issue with their broadband service, and eventually they are asked to give their bank account details.

Gardai say that this is a scam, but that the misleading nature of the call is added to by the fact that in some cases, the number from which the call is being made appears similar to a local number.

Gardai are advising people not to fall for the scam and to contact their telephone provider and inform them of the phone number, should it appear in their caller ID.
