The recipient of the Carer of the Year Award for South Tipperary is to meet with the Minister for Disability for a discussion on the decision to cut the mobility grant.

Maggie Butler was presented with the awarded recently for the level of care she provides to her son Alex who suffers from a range of disabilities.

However, Maggie recently highlighted how the government’s decision to scrap the mobility grant a number of years ago has made it difficult for her family to replace a specially fitted-out van that is vital getting Alex to his appointments.

Speaking to Tipperary Mid West Radio this morning, Richie Molloy, also the manager of the South Tipperary branch of Family Carers Ireland said that TD Mattie McGrath has arranged for Maggie to meet with Minister Finian McGrath on the matter.

Mr Molloy explained how the scrapping of the mobility grant left a gap in support that proves very hard for many to bridge.
