A county Tipperary TD has said that he is concerned that Britain’s decision to leave the EU could present problems for Ireland’s beef trade with the UK. Britain is a key trading partner when it comes to the Irish beef market.
But Deputy Jackie Cahill says he is worried that the progress made in the Mercosur Trade talks in removing beef from the proposed trade deal with South America, could be sidelined if an independent Britain decides to do a deal of its own for cheaper, foreign beef.
The FF TD has said that if Britain strikes such a deal, it could result in Ireland competing with South American produce for its hold in the UK market.
