The Department of the Environment has given the go-ahead to Tipperary County Council to proceed with the latest Tenant Purchase Scheme.
The new scheme offers some local authority tenants the opportunity to buy their homes from the council.
According to Cllr Siobhan Ambrose, the rules of the scheme specify that approval is based on a specific level of working income from the tenant, while some houses are also exempt from the scheme, such those designated for the elderly.
Tenants who are eligible for the scheme will be written to over the coming weeks, or tenants can inquire at their local council office.
Cllr Ambrose has also tabled a motion requesting that profits made from the scheme would be used to upgrade the council’s older housing stock through the replacement of windows and doors, plumbing and electrical upgrading works.
This motion was unanimously supported.
