The South Eastern Mountain Rescue Association responded to its first call-out of 2015 over the weekend responded to its first call-out of 2015 over the weekend, rescuing a kayaker who was injured in Co. Limerick’s Clare’s Glens on Saturday evening.
Members of the rescue organisation were called out when the man who was kayaking with friends was injured in a particularly inaccessible spot on the river.
It was decided to lower a stretcher to the casualty site, and through the efforts of SEMRA, the fire service, Killaloe Coast Guard, gardai, the HSE and the Coast Guard Helicopter from Waterford the man was brought up 50 meters to safety and transferred to an awaiting ambulance.
This was the first call-out for SEMRA this year and it comes after 2014 turned out to be one of the busiest years for the team in recent times.
