Couple rescued on Knockmealdown mountains.

A team from South Eastern Mountain Rescue Association (SEMRA) rescued a couple at the weekend who had become trapped in a rhododendron forest on the Knockmealdown mountains.

The couple got into difficulty after they attempted to make their way off the mountain at Bay Lough through some rhododendron bushes.

However, they soon found that the vegetation was impenetrable and contacted SEMRA for assistance.

Speaking to Tipperary Mid West Radio this morning the organisation’s Jimmy Barry said that he had never seen such dense growth before, adding that it took hours to get a few hundred meters to rescue the stricken couple.

He said that neither did making their way out of the undergrowth prove easy as the rhododendron vegetation was packed tight at the edge of the lake. As a result, Cahir River Rescue had to be notified.
