Abolition of telephone allowance.

The President of Muintir na Tíre John Hogan has said that  his organisation will continue to fight against the abolition of the fixed telephone allowance.

Mr Hogan told Tipperary Mid West Radio that a recent survey carried out by Muintir na Tíre found that nearly 60% of those responding said that the mobile phone coverage in their area was unreliable.

He added that this was of particular concern given that a large number of personal alarm monitors are dependent upon a landline connection which they can no longer afford if the telephone allowance is dispensed of.
