A teenage campaigner who was shot in the head by Taliban gunmen was awarded the Tipperary International Peace Award in Tipperary last night.

16 year old Pakistani student Malala Yousafzai was targeted by gunmen last October for activism in promoting girl’s education.

Last night she was presented with the award following a speech she made in which she encouraged people of all ages to campaign for equal rights and equal access to education regardless of race, religion or social standing.

She ended last night’s speech on an instructive and positive note which also gave a special nod to Tipperary.
