The Nenagh and Clonmel areas of County Tipperary have shown a demand for a change in the patronage of primary schools.
In total, 23 schools nationally are set to lose their Catholic Church Patronage on the basis of the views of parents who participated in the survey. Most of these areas are likely to transfer to the multi denominational Educate Together.
In Tipperary Town there were 558 preferences expressed by parents. Of these, 126 said they would welcome a wider choice of patronage, with 98 of those saying they would avail of that choice.
Of the 439 valid preferences who stated that they would not avail of the option of a new patron, 133 stated that hey would like to see the current schools restructured as they would prefer co-educational education to single sex education.
