Primary schools in parts of Co Tipperary are urging the parents of pupils to take part in the survey being run by the Department of Education regarding the patronage of school.
Parents are being asked to tell the department whether or not they want the school their children attend to be under the patronage of the Catholic Church or other non-religious patron bodies.
At present, around 96% of primary schools in Ireland are owned and under patronage of religious denominations, 90% of which are under the patronage of the Catholic Church.
