It has emerged that the MInister for Health, James Reilly (FG), paid a Christmas Day visit to the Mid Western Regional Hospital in Limerick.

According to the INMO, which has undertaken a number of work stoppages in protest at what they say are chaotic working conditions at the emergency department, it offered nurses the opportunity to speak directly to the minister.

The Industrial Relations Officer in the Mid West, Mary Fogarty, said that Mr. Reilly told the nurses they would see improvements at the hospital's emergency department
